It can be hard to decide what molds to get when you first decide to create with expoxy resin. There are so many to choose from, coasters, jewelry dishes, cups, pens, how do you pick just one! There are kits and starter packs that make it easy but for those who would like to pick and choose, here are my favorite resin molds.
Coaster Molds
Resin Coasters are a staple for every resin artist, there are so many to chose from! Theres the coaster molds that come with the coaster molds themselves and with a storage mold (Left Image). Those are great because the coaster molds themselves are flat with no lip and can be used for more than just drinks. Then they come with the containers allowing you to display them beautifully in your home. The other popular coasters are the ones with the lip around the edges (Right Image).
They are great for beginners because they are flat with limited corners making it easier to pop bubbles if any get stuck. It also makes the demolding process simpler. The more edges and shapes in a mold the harder it is to demold and increases the chance of the mold ripping.
Pyramids
Pyramids a great way to learn about layering in resin, they are one of the larger mold types but they make gorgeous art pieces. They are perfect for preserving flowers, and memories in a gorgeous 3D pyramid. What makes this mold so special is that you can add multiple layers into it from glitter, to lights, and demolds seamlessly. It is by far one of my personal favorites.
Jewelry and Small Dishes
Jewelry dish molds are one of the most popular resin molds. These molds are great, I love to pu glitter around the rims, and add all kinds of fun inserts. The possibilities are endless, the small dishes make wonderful little ring trays or key holders. They are simple and easy making them perfect for those just starting. Definitely a go to mold for sure!
Chess Game Mold
Who does not love a good game of chess? I know I do and what better way to play than with a game board and pieces that you made yourself. A chess resin mold is a great choice to create something you would use all the time! Plus who wouldn't want a unique chess set with pressed flowers and glitter?
Dominoes Mold
Keeping on trend with resin game molds here comes the dominos! I love a good domino mold, I have made several sets. Its a good pick for someone who loves projects with extra details. One of the fun parts of this mold is painting the dots! It does take extra time but it just adds an extra element of creativity and fun, chosing the color of the dots and add ins. I know of one resin artist who uses gorgeous vinyl addins to her dominos. Definitely a must have!
Alphabet Mold
This mold is a staple in any resin artists arsenal, because it makes the perfect personalized keychains and charms. This mold is fun because it takes only a little resin and can be used for so many things. One of the best uses is for my moms out there, alphabet fridge magnets! These are so fun and creative and one of my top choices especially for my resin newbies!
Lotus Candle Mold
The lotus resin mold is one of my favorites especially when I have excess resin from another project. They are so simple yet so gorgeous. They make a great, quick project and have so many uses! I like to use them for candles, jewelry dishes, and paper clip holders at work. The are small so they are also easy to store and you can have multiple of them to get a variety of stunning lotus flowers.
Lipstick Organzier Mold
This one is for my makeup lovers out there, who would love an amazing resin mold that stores your lipsticks, mascaras, and more! This one is a fun mold but also one of the harder ones to demold so I recommend it to the ones who like a challange. However, the result is so worth it, they are so beautiful and I use mine to hold my small perfumes and go to lipsticks. Plus there are other variatrions with more slots and that come with containers for lip and eye liners.
Pen Mold
Pens, pens, and more pens! I love my pen mold and use it all the time. These molds come with multiple shapes and ink colors, and they take only a small amount of resin. Plus some of the kits come with calligraphy pen inserts which make unique gifts.
Cabachon Mold
This mold is for my jewelry makers, who love to wire wrap and set cabachon stones. These can be added to necklace pendants, and earrings. I like to attach them to stud earring flats to make fun and unique earrings. They are perfect for beginners, and can be used on lots of projects.
