It can be so so overwhelming when you begin any new craft to find the right tools and the ones that last. Plus it is hard to find tools that are reusable and durable, and that make clean up a little easier, because if you are anything like me crafting gets messy.
And Resin is no exception.....
Here are resin tools I wish I had when I started my resin journey, and that will help you progress on yours!
Silicone Mats
There is nothing worse than when you get everything laid out all nice and you begin your pour and boom! You spill everywhere and worse you spilled resin everywhere. Resin will stick to almost anything and can be difficult to remove.
I love these silicone mats, they make clean up so much easier. They are made similarly to resin molds allowing dried resin to just peal right off, so instead of fighting and chipping your furniture when you spill, try these they will make crafting with resin less stressful and clean up a breeze.
Heat Gun or Small Torch
One of the resin pain points are bubbles...They can be stubborn to get out and if they do not pop can ruin your project. There are many methods used to pop these tiny bubbles, but my favorite is heat. I like to use a heat gun but I know a small torch or light works well too. You wait until they rise to the top and then take your heat source and slowly bring it over the surface of the piece. It pops the bubbles in seconds! Here are two of my recommendations below!
There are a variety of heat guns to chose from but I personally enjoy this style here, it is easy to hold and put down. It also does not take up as much space. They are easy to use and make popping those pesky bubbles effortless.
Torches are another great alternative, they can reach high heats and pop bubbles in a snap. They are long lasting and work better than an average lighter. Saving you money over time which is always a perk.
Silicone Resin Measuring Cups
Resin art is messy and can get expensive which is why the more reusable items you can get the better. Anything with silicone is a great choice which is why its a resin must to have silicone resin measuring cups! They take the hassel out of clean up, you just wait until the resin drys and peel it out. Wash with some soap and water and boom!
Silicone Stirring Spoons
Mixing tools for your resin is another must have! I know I started using disposable wooden popsicle sticks and they are an easy find at most craft stores, but I spent money over and over again. Using reusable stirring spoons, makes all the difference and saves you money over time! The ones I like are silicone but you can find other types by just looking for resuable stirring spoons. There are even resin mixers that can help for those larger projects!
Resin Scale
When it comes to mixing resin you have to be super careful about the measurements. Using a scale is vital to ensure that the ratio of resin to hardner matches the brand of resin you choose. Most have a 1:1 ratio meaning that you have to use equal parts resin and hardner in your mixture to get the desired affect. If the measurements are off then it wouldn't cure correctly. Using an electronic scale can help ensure that your resin ratio is correct. I like the one above it helps make it easy to check my epoxy and is useful in other areas of the house!
Leveling Board
This item is more for convenience but it makes a huge difference. Since resin is a liquid up until it cures, you want to have a nice flat and level table to cure on. Leveling boards are great to help your pieces dry flat and even. If you pair it with a silicone mat it becomes the perfect pair!
Silicone Split Cups
Silicone split cups are a fun extra that will change the game when you are working with more than one color. They come with a variety of splits from 2-5 ensuring your pieces can be full of color. Split cups are perfect to pour more than one resin blend at a time, leveling up your piece and reducing the clean up. Plus it is reuseable!
